We all heard the sayings and know how important a good night sleep is. But how to achieve a healthy night rest is a question many people struggle with. For me, someone who loves to sleep (early at night), I figured out a few things that work real wonders in terms of getting in the sleep mood and enjoying an eight-hour+ rest at night.
There are several things you can do to de-stress and get tired at night.
For me, it’s all about getting ready for the new day and enjoy the rest of the actual day, as comfy as possible.
When I come home after work, there are a few things I always like to do. Kind of my night time rituals. But first, let me tell you a little about my sleep schedule. Currently, I’m home after work at about 6.30 pm. I go to bed at about 10 pm, sometimes 11 pm and get up at 7 am. In summer I stand up much earlier. But lately, it’s really cold and dark. So I enjoy an extra hour in bed, or two.
What I do when I come home
First of all, when I come home (and know I stay home for the rest of the evening) I wash my hands and take off my makeup. It always feels like a relief when you can touch your face, rub your eyes and when you feel your skin breath. Some days, when I’m really in need of some relaxation, I take a hot shower or bath. I like to switch on some relaxing- spa- music or guided meditation and just enjoy the warmth. I mean, what is better than a hot bath/shower after a long busy winter day.
After cleansing, shower I change into something comfy. My PJ’s or loungewear.
No bra, no problems!
While dinner I enjoy a cup of tea (my favorite night tea at the moment is lavender- peppermint). It really calms me down and again warmth me up.
I get totally ready for bed. By that I mean, I brush my teeth, floss and pamper my face
(sometimes I also put a mask on).
This is also the time I check my emails for the last time of the day.
Ready for the next day
Before I actually go to bed, I plan the upcoming day. I make a list of all the things I have to do like work times, deadlines, blog stuff, and emails. Also, I tidy up my kitchen and living space. Because nothing makes me more fretful than knowing I have to make the dishes in the morning.
Finally, the last things I do before going to sleep, I turn off my phone and laptop. Therefore I read a book, cuddle the cat or knit .. Yes, I’m such a granny.
What do you do calm down at night so you sleep better?
