The IEB Autumn / Winter survival kit. Simple tips for outlasting Autumn & Winter when you are actually a summer person.
When I think about Autumn / Winter, the first thing that comes to my mind is cold hands, crisp leaves, and long walks. It’s such a beautiful season – or beautiful seasons. But they can also be really hectic, soggy and miserable. So I completed the ultimate Autumn / Winter survival kit so you can make the next 4-6 month feel like heaven. So grab yourself some tea or coffee and get ready for A/W ’17
Layers and layers of clothing
When it’s getting cold and grotty it’s important to dress appropriately – and I mean weather appropriate!
Think fluffy socks, warm coat, scarf & hat, boots, thick tights and chunky knit. These are key pieces in an A/W wardrobe, at least where I live. Don’t go for style rather than substance at this time of year. And try to find items that serve you well. Investing in a good winter coat is key, as you’re going to wear it every day for at least 4 months! Another important thing to buy is good shoes who’ll keep your feet dry and warm! And at last, layer up. It might be freezing cold in the morning or when you go out, but later in the day or when you go inside it’ll be a lot warmer. So prepare yourself to wrap like a burrito.
A cozy home
Now that we’re almost in the Michael Bublé Christmas music on repeat season (yes, I’m one of those persons) – it’s time to get the home all cozy and ready for endless cuddles under a huge soft blanket. Besides fairy lights, candles and blankets you may also need a few other bits and bobs around your house to enjoy this dark season. For example books. I’m not a huge reader myself, but A/W is the time I always get into the mood and buy a few books. Currently on my Amazin Booklist is Note to self, Get your sh** together and The Little book of life hacks. Another thing that can make a huge impact on your home is changing your bedding and pillowcases for something seasonal.
Besides the look of your home, it also is the season for comfort food. I personally really enjoy baking all sorts of sweet treats, that I can serve my guests or give friends and family as a hostess gift.
Soft skin and hair
When you’re like me, as soon as it get’s cold your skin feels lizard-like and your hair becomes a static mess, it’s time to bring out the big guns. I mean face masks at least twice per week and nourishing hair masks every time I wash my tresses. I now slather myself in body butter (sometimes twice per day – morning and evening). And have moisturizer in every bag and a lip balm or hand cream in every coat pocket. Something I really, really enjoy in the colder season is taking a bath. Soaking in a tub filled with warm water and rich oils and bubbles is the best thing to do after a long and cold day. Unfortunately, we don’t have a tub in our new flat. So I will visit friends and family for some relaxing hours. Haha.
