Getting healthy (again)

Approximately 3 months ago, I fell off the healthy bandwagon. My diet changed and I stopped going to the gym. Yes. It sounds like a total bummer. That’s why I wrote this post to not just motivate you but also motivate myself to get healthy, again.  Hope you enjoy it and that you find some inspiration, x

Self-care

It’s not selfish to love yourself, take care of yourself and to make your happiness a priority. It’s necessary!

Self-care is something I never neglect and you shouldn’t too. It is the most important part of my daily routine but I still can improve my happiness.

Set a goal I used to journal my goals, this way I can keep track of them and satisfy them easily. And that’s what I plan on doing again. I want to be able to see if I’m on the right way to fulfill my dreams in the fast and healthiest way possible. Do you have any tips for goal journaling? I would love to hear how you do it.

Go to bed early lately my sleeping schedule is really messed up. I wake up in the middle of the night or stay up really late. Other than in winter, I really like to get up early in summer. So I try to go to bed early again, on work days at around 10 pm and at the weekend around 11-11:3o pm. Sleep is like the holy grail for a healthy life. When you don’t get enough sleep you are moody and get those dark circles nobody wants.  So set an alarm not just for waking up – also as a reminder to go to bed on time. My phone reminds me at about 09:45 pm to get myself ready to fall asleep (and it really helps).

Read more books especially classics. I never was a bookworm or enjoyed reading a lot. But I really want to get more into it. So I prepared a little reading list for myself, which I want to reduce by the end of the year:

 

 

Moving my body

Exercise is a celebration of what your body can do!

Usually, I love to be active. I like going for long walks, dancing around and play sports with my friends. I always take the stairs and enjoy to break a sweat but for whatever reason, I hate training at the gym. It’s boring and non-social -and that’s why I stopped going.
I started doing a little workout every day at home via Youtube. My favorites are by  Blogilates   Cassey, the fitness instructor is such an uplifting and motivating spirit and it feels like working out with a friend. What I really enjoy. Also, her videos are only around 10 min long, so easy to squeeze into a busy schedule.

Other than working out in my living room, I try to go by bike or walk to my appointments as often as the weather allows it. And I stretch and do yoga at least every other day.

After we moved house next month (We did already), I want to get back into running. I used to love running off- road in the woods and challenge myself. And I want to try a new active hobby, such as swimming or tennis. For me, it’s not about competing or winning, it’s all fun, being social & active and get my heart pumping. Do you have any suggestions for cool sporty activities? I’d love to try out your suggestions.

 

Healthy diet and hydration

I can’t control everything in my life, but I can control what I put in my body.

As I told you, my diet changed. I’m not fully vegan any longer… I eased myself into having fish or chicken every once in a while. Besides that, I lately consumed a lot more junk, such as white bread, soda, sweets, and wine. Don’t get me wrong, I love treats but I believe you should enjoy them in moderation. You are what you eat and you don’t have to restrict yourself too much – just keep it balanced. When I have to much white bread, soda or sweets I not just gain some muffin top, I also feel sluggish.

Hydration It is important to drink enough. And if you just take one thing away from this post, it’s ALWAYS STAY HYDRATEDI bought myself a new water bottle, this way I can always have fresh water with me and don’t need to buy some.

Vegan I always said, I probably won’t be eating vegan forever. I was raised really healthy and mostly plant based and have changed my diet over the years several times. And  I was fully vegan for the last 3 years but with the beginning of this year, I started craving fish. First I ignored the craving and tried to find a remedy. But,  I gave in and now I allow myself fish and chicken from time to time. First I felt bad for not being vegan any longer and what others would think, but I’m happy and I feel amazing.

Daily little steps
  • drink at least 2 liters of water!
  • stretch at night before bed
  • work out / move your body
  • track  diet (I used to use Cronometer for this)
  • dry brushing and skin-care
  • me time
  • enough sleep
  • have FUN!

    Beautiful photos! I definitely agree with everything you said here. Especially getting enough sleep and setting your goals!

    This is great post. I definitely fell off the healthy living bandwagon for a couple of months as well. All it takes is some new motivation and ideas to get started again!
